Russia accuses Ukraine of using 38 drones to attack Crimea; the drones were intercepted and destroyed.

According to a statement from Russia’s defense ministry, all 38 drones that Ukraine had launched into the Crimean Peninsula were successfully intercepted and destroyed by Russian air defense systems in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident generated concerns about possible damage or casualties and sparked reports of strong explosions in the port of Feodosia.

When interacting via the Telegram messaging service, the Russian Ministry of Defense withheld information about the extent of the drone attack.

Significant explosions were reportedly recorded by Feodosia inhabitants near the harbor and an oil storage at around two in the morning local time on Sunday, according to reports from Russian and Ukrainian social media.

Road traffic restrictions near Feodosia were noted earlier by Russian-installed officials in Crimea, though Reuters was unable to independently confirm the explosion reports.

In addition, traffic on the bridge that links the Russian mainland and the Crimean Peninsula came to a brief stop and then resumed around 02:40 WAT.

Russia’s 2014 annexation of the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine has been a major flashpoint in the two-year conflict between the two countries. Drone assaults from the air and sea have been used by Ukraine more frequently against Russian military targets in the area, resulting in damage to ships, naval repair yards, and other vital sites.

Although the specifics of the latest event are still unknown, Moscow uses its Black Sea fleet to strike Ukraine from a distance.

President Vladimir Putin uses this region as a vital theater from which to project power into the Middle East and Europe.

Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the president of Ukraine, has said that his army has been successful in undermining Moscow’s military influence in the Black Sea. He thinks that Ukraine might defeat Russia in the end with stronger backing from its allies.

Regarding the recent drone strike close to Crimea, no immediate statement has been made by Ukrainian authorities.
